LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — A 78-year-old widow who waited seven months for a garage door repair after a vandalism spree has received a new door from a local business.

Ana Aleman’s garage door was damaged in November when suspect Chad Walker hit dozens of garage doors across the valley. Police said Walker targeted his girlfriend’s home first, then drove for miles, hitting homes at random to cover his tracks.

Unable to afford repairs, Aleman’s door had been held up by wooden planks for months. She could not open or close the door, leaving her car trapped inside and her home exposed to animals.

“Every time I go to the garage, I’m afraid that an animal will be there,” Aleman said.

Less than 24 hours after her story aired, her door was replaced.

“This is so incredible. It’s something from heaven. Oh, my God. So pretty,” Aleman said.

Local business steps in to help

Michael with Nevada Strong Garage Door said he learned about Aleman’s situation from a family friend who sent him a link to the news story.

“I got a text from a family friend. His name is John. And he had sent me the news story, the link to the Fox 5 story that you guys did last night. And I was like, well, that’d be probably a pretty easy job to handle,” Michael said.

By 8 a.m., Michael arrived at Aleman’s home with a new garage door on his truck.

“He said something like that. He said, I have a gift for you,” Aleman said.

“If you have people that are in the community that need help and you’re able to offer that help, I think you should do that,” Michael said.

Michael said his company was not the only local business that stepped in. When he was finishing up, another company, Empire Garage Door, also arrived ready to help.

Aleman is a widow on a fixed income. She said she could not afford the repairs or the insurance deductible, which would have cost nearly $3,000.

“I don’t have money to fix it because, actually, I just have my social security. And my social security gets into that account and then goes out because I have to pay my bills,” she said.

Aleman was one of more than a dozen victims whose garages were destroyed. She said she waited and prayed that help would come.

“I touch it, and I think, oh my God, this is impossible. This is impossible. This is something that I cannot believe,” Aleman said.

Walker was sentenced to up to five years in prison. According to court documents, Walker owes Aleman more than $3,500 and owes victims more than $45,000 in damages.
