LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – A Las Vegas woman charged with the murder of a man sitting in his work van will continue to be held without bail.

Kayla Alery, 27, was charged with open murder and multiple other felony charges following the shooting death of 41-year-old Raul Cardoza on March 26. The carpet cleaner was sitting in his van and died following what Las Vegas police deemed a “random shooting.”

A 27-year-old woman is accused of shooting and killing a man near Spring Mountain and Fort Apache roads Tuesday.

Alery appeared in Clark County Justice Court on April 2 and Judge Ann E. Zimmerman ordered that the suspect remain in custody without bail. According to court records, a special public defender was also appointed for Alery.

A search of court records indicates that Alery was recently released after serving a prison sentence for an arson conviction. She was also charged with punching an inmate while waiting to be booked into the Clark County Detention Center on her latest charges.

She is due back in court on Thursday for a status check.
