LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — The search for a motive behind the shooting at a Manhattan building spans from New York to Las Vegas, as New York Police Department officials arrive in the Valley to continue their investigation.

A source told FOX5 that NYPD staff arrived in Las Vegas Tuesday, as the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and the Counterterrorism Section continue to assist in the investigation.

Monday into Tuesday, investigators searched and staged a police presence at the home of the parents of Shane Tamura. The home in the La Jolla Classics neighborhood in the Northwest Valley was a listed address for the suspect.

Tuesday afternoon, a LVMPD source confirmed that investigators turned their attention to a second apartment tied to the suspect; it’s unclear what investigators were looking for or found.

Mayor Eric Adams went on WNYW’s Good Day New York, Tuesday, and gave more insight into the suspect’s movement and possible motive. He was not on the radar of New York law enforcement, Adams said.

Tamura targeted a Park Avenue building that was home to National Football League Headquarters.

“It appears as though he was going after the employees at the NFL. We’re still going through the suicide note to zero in on the exact reason. But at this time it appears as though something is attached to his belief he experienced CTE,” Adams said, noting that Tamura took the wrong elevator and ended up at a different office.

WNYW reports that a note left behind by the suspect had a message: “Study my brain… I’m sorry.” Adams said the suspect shot himself in the chest.

FOX5 has reported on the suspect’s history of psychiatric holds. Las Vegas investigators are communicating details of Tamura’s mental illness history to NYPD investigators, Adams said.

Tamura’s high school football coach spoke to CNN, only recalling an ankle injury during his senior year at Granada Hills Charter School.

“I just remember he’s a soft spoken, coachable kid, meaning that if you ask him to do something he was definitely willing to do it,” said Walter Roby.

NYPD leaders released images of an AR-15 rifle used by the suspect, and a handgun found in Tamura’s vehicle.

“The weapon used, an AR-15 style assault rifle, was assembled by Mister Tamura using a lower receiver purchased by an associate. We have located that associate and others, and we’ll be questioning him about that purchase. This is part of a larger effort to trace Mister Tamura’s steps from Las Vegas to New York City,” said NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch.

Tamura had an active CCW permit that was issued in 2022 by LVMPD.
