LAS VEGAS (FOX5) — Clark County Fire Department and Las Vegas Fire & Rescue will compete in a head-to-head comfort bear stuffing competition Monday at the 2026 NFPA Conference & Expo at Mandalay Bay.

The competition is scheduled for 10 a.m. June 22 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center.

Representatives from both departments will compete in a fast-paced bear stuffing challenge. The National Fire Protection Association will donate 600 bears to the winning department and 300 bears to the other department.

Conference attendees will stuff comfort bears throughout the day in support of the donation.

Organizers said comfort bears serve as a tool for first responders during crises, helping comfort children during fires, crashes and other emergencies. The stuffed animals also support older adults experiencing Alzheimer’s, dementia and other memory-related conditions during stressful situations.

In 2025, the Clark County Fire Department responded to nearly 152,000 calls for service. Las Vegas Fire & Rescue handled more than 133,000 emergency responses.
