CARSON CITY, Nev. (FOX5) — Nevada recorded 199 traffic fatalities from January through July 2026, a 13.48% decrease from the 230 deaths reported during the same period in 2025, according to the Nevada Department of Public Safety’s Office of Traffic Safety.
The number of fatal crashes also dropped during the same period, falling from 217 in 2025 to 187 in 2026 — a decline of 13.82%, the report shows.

County-by-county breakdown
Clark County recorded the largest raw decrease in fatalities, dropping from 157 to 109 — a 30.57% decline. Washoe County also saw a significant decrease, falling from 35 fatalities to 25, a drop of 28.57%.
Several rural counties saw increases. Lyon County reported 16 fatalities through July 2026, up from four during the same period in 2025, a 300% increase. Nye County rose from three fatalities to 12, also a 300% increase. Elko County climbed from five fatalities to 12, a 140% increase.
Unrestrained fatalities
Statewide, unrestrained vehicle occupant fatalities fell from 41 in 2025 to 37 in 2026 through July, a 9.76% decrease. Clark County saw the largest drop in unrestrained fatalities, from 24 to 16, a 33.33% decline.
Pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists
Pedestrian fatalities statewide declined from 60 to 51 through July, a 15% decrease. Bicycle fatalities dropped from nine to four, a 55.56% decline. Motorcyclist fatalities fell from 53 to 45, a 15.09% decrease.
Clark County accounted for 36 of the state’s 51 pedestrian fatalities and 34 of the 45 motorcyclist fatalities recorded through July 2026.
10-year trend
Nevada’s 10-year traffic fatality average stands at 361.3 deaths per year, based on data from 2016 through 2025. Fatalities peaked in 2022 at 416 and reached a recent low of 304 in 2019. The 2025 full-year total was 380 fatalities, according to the report.
The report was compiled by the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety and is dated Aug. 6, 2026. Data covers the period through July 31, 2026. The office noted that 2025 data is preliminary and not final until the Federal Accident Reporting System release in 2027.
