Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officials discussed the program during a briefing at department headquarters, framing the effort as a proactive push to keep the valley safe during the summer months, including Fourth of July celebrations and major sports events.
As part of the plan, LVMPD said it is enhancing its counterterrorism program by 30%. Assistant Sheriff Dori Koren said the added staffing means more personnel focused on “threat detection, intelligence gathering, investigation and prevention efforts.”
Koren also said Metro is investing in new technology, equipment and operational capabilities designed to strengthen the department’s ability to identify and address threats before they impact the community.
